Adventures into Azulaan v0.2.0 is the largest update in the game’s history. It brings together months of work that began as the planned v0.1.3 update and eventually grew far beyond that original scope.

Many of you have already seen parts of this release through Discord updates, screenshots and pre-release builds. This is the first full release that gathers those pieces into one playable version: persistent accounts and characters, four distinct classes, professions, a more useful map and quest journal, expanded social systems, Dungeon Finder, and a broad pass across combat, movement, interface and stability.

> **Alpha release:** Azulaan is still growing. Balance and content will continue to change, and character resets may sometimes be necessary during testing.

## From v0.1.3 to v0.2.0

The previous formal release was the v0.1.2 Combat Update, followed by its January hotfix. Work then began on what was expected to become v0.1.3.

At first, that update was going to focus on quality-of-life improvements, movement and pathfinding, professions, accounts, and the first fully separated server-and-client version of Azulaan. As development continued, each part opened the door to something larger. Accounts needed proper character creation and selection. A hosted world needed safer saving and reconnects. Professions needed trainers, gathering, recipes, crafting and useful rewards. Multiplayer needed groups, trading, mail and better chat. The world needed clearer quests, maps and reasons to explore it together.

By the middle of development, v0.1.3 no longer described what the update had become. The jump to v0.2.0 reflects both the amount that has changed and the stronger foundation now underneath the game.

This article is therefore a little different from an ordinary list of patch notes. It is a tour through the version of Azulaan that exists now—and the many systems that simply did not exist when v0.1.2 was released.

## A lasting place for your characters

Azulaan now has a proper hosted multiplayer home. Your account and characters are no longer tied to a locally hosted play session, making it much easier to return to the same adventure from one visit to the next.

You can create several heroes on one account, choose a character before entering the world, and see whether you are connecting to the Local, Dev or Live environment. Character creation now gives you a clear view of the available classes, appearance and starting options before your journey begins.

![Azulaan character creator showing Mage selected alongside Commoner, Rogue, Warrior and Druid class options](https://azulaan.com/content/images/2026/08/clipboard.png)

Creating a new Mage from Azulaan’s four playable classes.

Behind that friendlier flow is a much safer approach to character ownership and saving. Equipment, inventory, quests, professions, social information and location are now associated with the character you actually selected. Travelling between areas, reconnecting after an interruption and returning from an instance are all less likely to leave you in the wrong place or with stale information.

The result is simple from a player’s point of view: you can come back to Azulaan and continue as the same hero.

## Four ways to begin your adventure

Mage, Warrior, Rogue and Druid are now distinct playable classes. Each begins with its own look, equipment, attributes and starting abilities, giving a new character a clearer identity from the moment they enter the world.

- **Warriors** meet danger head-on with armour, weapons and direct attacks.
- **Mages** wield ranged magic and a growing collection of spells.
- **Rogues** build combo points before spending them on stronger finishing attacks.
- **Druids** begin a more adaptable path with nature-themed abilities and room to grow into support and survival roles.

The class foundations are still early, and their skill lists and balance will continue to expand. What matters in v0.2.0 is that choosing a class is now a meaningful first decision rather than a cosmetic label. Starter equipment is matched to the class, learned skills persist correctly, and key abilities are less likely to become unusable simply because an early weapon was unequipped or replaced.

## Finding your way through Ilderan

The world is becoming easier to read without losing the feeling of discovery. The new full map shows the shape of the current area, your position, party members, important characters, trainers, shops and the different stages of a quest.

![The Ilderan world map with houses, paths, the player position, party member and quest markers beside the map legend](https://azulaan.com/content/images/2026/08/clipboard-1.png)

The Ilderan map brings destinations, party members and quest markers together.

Available quests, objectives in progress and places ready for turn-in have their own markers. Quest enemies, loot and world interactions can also appear when an objective calls for them. The map can be panned and zoomed with a mouse or touch controls, while the minimap keeps nearby information visible during normal play.

This is more than a convenience feature. It gives new stories room to involve several people and locations without forcing players to guess which identical patch of road or field matters.

## Quests that tell you what matters

The quest journal and tracker have received one of their largest passes so far. A quest can now present a proper introduction, active objectives, progress, rewards and a distinct turn-in stage. Objective markers update as the story moves forward, and the journal can distinguish quests intended for different levels.

![Quest journal showing Culling the Goblin Threat, its story, objective, experience, coin and Pete’s Fieldblade reward](https://azulaan.com/content/images/2026/08/clipboard-10.png)

Culling the Goblin Threat shows its story, current objective and rewards in one place.

Pumpkin Pete’s troubles are a good early example. A task can ask you to gather crops, confront goblins, return to the right person and receive experience, coin or an item that actually appears in the reward preview. The tracker can hold more objectives, remember where you placed it, and scroll when the list becomes long.

Quest rewards also provide a clearer picture of what your character will receive. Experience can scale when a hero greatly outlevels an early task, item rewards can be inspected before completion, and the completion message reflects the final reward rather than a confusing collection of intermediate updates.

The underlying quest system can now support repeatable work, profession orders, dungeon goals and longer chains as more content is added. v0.2.0 does not fill the world with all of those adventures at once, but it gives future quests a much stronger set of tools.

## Learn a trade, gather materials and create something useful

Professions introduce an entirely new form of progression. Instead of every useful item appearing as a drop or shop purchase, materials found around the world can now become equipment, supplies, meals and components for later recipes.

Trainers teach the first recipes and profession entries. Recipes can require the right materials, a suitable workstation and enough experience in that profession. Creating an item takes time, displays its progress, and can continue through a batch with the new Craft All option.

The first production paths include Smithing, Alchemy, Woodworking, Leatherworking and Cooking. They are supported by gathering activities such as Mining, Foraging, Skinning and Fishing. Early recipes turn raw finds into Copper Bars, Ragged Leather, potions, tools, weapons and food, while profession orders offer another reason to practise and improve.

Difficulty and progression are visible inside the profession window. Easier work gradually stops being the best way to improve, while trainers can offer new recipes as your skill grows. This is only the opening tier of the profession system, but it establishes a path from finding a resource to making something another adventurer can actually use.

### Fishing reaches the water

Fishing has grown from an early experiment into an activity that takes place in authored waters. Equip a fishing rod, cast into a suitable pool and watch the float for movement and ripples. When a fish bites, timing matters.

Highland Trout provide the common early catch, while rarer fish such as the Uncommon Golden Minnow give fishing and cooking room to develop together. Bait, catch rarity, profession progress and cooked-fish recipes form the first version of a wider gathering loop.

## Equipment that remembers what happened to it

Items now have a much more dependable life after entering the world. An individual sword, potion or crafting material can keep its identity as it moves through a bag, equipment slot, trade, mail attachment or saved character.

![Inventory equipment panel showing the bound Pete’s Fieldblade item details, damage, speed and description](https://azulaan.com/content/images/2026/08/clipboard-13.png)

Pete’s Fieldblade shows its damage, speed, binding and story.

Tooltips and item details explain level and class requirements, whether an item is bound, and whether it can be traded. Bind-on-equip items remain transferable until someone chooses to equip them, at which point a confirmation makes that permanent decision clear. Bound or restricted items are excluded from trade and mail selection without hiding another transferable copy of the same item.

Equipment changes are also safer. Replacing, unequipping or dropping an item updates the inventory cleanly, and dropping a stack requires confirmation. Quest reward items can be inspected before you earn them, while early crafted weapons and class equipment give professions something practical to contribute.

## A multiplayer world, not just a shared screen

In v0.1.2, multiplayer was much closer to the idea of another character appearing nearby. v0.2.0 adds the first real set of tools for playing as a community.

The Social window shows who is online and where they are adventuring. From there, you can inspect another player, invite them to a group, begin a trade, send a whisper, add a friend or block unwanted contact.

![Online Social window listing three players with inspect, trade, group, whisper, friend and block actions](https://azulaan.com/content/images/2026/08/clipboard-14.png)

The online player list connects inspection, groups, trade, whispers and friends.

Groups make it easier to travel and fight together. Party members are marked on the map and minimap when they share an area, and shared combat can distribute eligible rewards without every player needing to land the final blow. Group and whisper channels sit alongside world, zone and ordinary speech, with configurable chat colours and visibility.

Direct trade provides a clear exchange of items and coin with a final confirmation from both players. Changes to either offer reset that confirmation, helping everyone see exactly what is being agreed upon before the exchange completes.

### Mail for the journey ahead

Mail adds a way to leave a message or send useful supplies even when another player is not standing beside you. Items and coin can be attached, received and collected through the mailbox, with reply and return actions available from the message itself.

The system is still receiving work around some return and expiry cases, but its core flow is now available for testing. Together, social tools, groups, trade, chat and mail form the first real community layer for Azulaan.

## Enter the Training Grove

Dungeon Finder is one of the clearest examples of how much the multiplayer foundation has changed. It allows a player or existing group to leave the public world, enter a private adventure and return to the place they left afterward.

The Training Grove is the first destination available through the finder. Choose it, join the queue and confirm that you are ready when a match is found. The ready check shows the group and waits for every adventurer before opening the instance.

![Dungeon Finder ready check for the Training Grove showing two matched adventurers and the acceptance timer](https://azulaan.com/content/images/2026/08/clipboard-16.png)

Two adventurers confirm that they are ready for the Training Grove.

Each matched group receives its own Training Grove rather than competing with everyone in the public version. Leaving the instance returns the party to its previous location, and disconnect or cancellation cleanup is designed to avoid leaving a character trapped in a stale queue or abandoned copy of the area.

The Training Grove is intentionally a modest first dungeon: a place to practise, prove the queue and instance flow, and establish the route that future dungeons will follow. More elaborate destinations will arrive as their environments, encounters and stories are ready.

## A clearer, more consistent interface

Almost every major window has been revisited. Character creation, inventory, equipment, professions, crafting, training, quests, the map, Dungeon Finder, social tools, trade, mail and settings now feel more like parts of the same game.

![Azulaan settings window showing chat channel toggles and configurable chat colours](https://azulaan.com/content/images/2026/08/clipboard-17.png)

Chat channels and colours can be adjusted from the expanded settings window.

The centred game menu gives the larger systems room to be found without crowding the corner of the screen. Keybinds are shown where useful, windows close more consistently with Escape, and moving between areas clears old panels before the next scene appears.

Touch support has also received sustained attention. Inventories and lists handle touch scrolling more reliably, the map supports pinch zoom, and item or status details can be opened without depending on a mouse hover. Mobile remains an active testing target rather than a finished promise, but v0.2.0 is far more comfortable to navigate across different screen sizes.

Settings now cover interface, controls, keybinds, audio, chat, notifications and development options in a unified panel. Chat channels can be toggled, colours adjusted, and individual pages reset without discarding every preference.

## Combat, movement and the feel of the world

The combat system introduced in v0.1.2 has continued to evolve throughout this update. Class abilities, auto-attacks, combo points, queued casts, status effects, damage presentation and equipment requirements have all received follow-up work.

Target information is clearer about whether a creature is friendly, neutral or hostile. Health bars reflect that relationship, neutral creatures can become visibly hostile while engaged, and combat state is decided by the world rather than trusted to the local client. Casts and attacks are rechecked when they occur, helping prevent stale targets or impossible actions after travel, death or disconnection.

Movement has also received a broad multiplayer pass. Nearby players are interpolated more smoothly, following another player no longer stutters around one exact stopping distance, and movement messages are sent at a steadier rate. NPC patrols are less likely to overshoot their destinations or become trapped against scenery.

These changes are not as easy to capture in one screenshot, but they shape almost every minute spent in the world.

## The quieter work beneath the adventure

Much of v0.2.0’s development happened below the visible surface. Azulaan now treats the dedicated server as the authority for combat, movement, inventories, quests, professions, groups, dungeons and character saves. Requests are validated and rate-limited, abandoned sessions are cleaned up, and the server has better logs and recovery behaviour when something goes wrong.

This does not mean every connection problem has disappeared, nor that the architecture will never change again. It means the game is no longer being built around one player acting as both adventurer and host. That distinction is what makes a persistent multiplayer world, future cross-platform testing and larger community features practical.

For players, the most important part is what this foundation makes possible next: more regions, deeper stories, group encounters, a growing economy and a world that can keep running when its creator is not personally hosting a session.

## Notable fixes and improvements

Alongside the headline systems, hundreds of smaller changes have accumulated since v0.1.2\. Some of the most noticeable include:

- Chat history is capped safely and no longer risks freezing the client during rapid repeatable-quest testing.
- Creatures, targets and combat state clean up more reliably after death, respawn, travel or disconnect.
- Reconnecting is more likely to restore a character to a sensible public-world location.
- Group loot and coin messages better represent what each eligible player actually received.
- Gathering attempts wait for the server before starting and no longer let an old cancellation finish a later action early.
- Inventory, shop, crafting, loot and quest lists respond more consistently to mouse-wheel and touch scrolling.
- Quest markers refresh as objectives change instead of waiting for a zone reload.
- Item and quest reward panels are more useful on touch devices.
- Remote players move more smoothly, while NPCs are less likely to overshoot patrol points.
- Loading and zone transfers close old gameplay windows and interrupt stale actions cleanly.
- Character creation and world return flows recover more gracefully when a request is rejected or interrupted.
- Exported builds load shared game content more efficiently and avoid unnecessary development scans during startup.

## Known Alpha limitations

The Training Grove is the only Dungeon Finder destination included in this first release. Northwood Approach and the Northwood Itrium Delve remain unfinished development areas and are not available on the hosted world yet.

Cross-platform testing is continuing, including broader Android and iOS coverage. A small number of mail return and expiry cases also remain on the testing list. Professions and classes have their foundations in place, but their balance, recipes, abilities and higher-level progression are still early.

As always, save formats and balance may change during Alpha, and occasional character resets may be necessary while major systems are still settling.

If you encounter a problem, please tell us which platform and world you were using, what you were doing immediately beforehand, and whether reconnecting changed the result. Those details make reports much easier to reproduce.

> **Thank you for sticking with Azulaan.** This release took much longer than first expected, but that extra time allowed the original v0.1.3 plans to grow into a much stronger game. Your testing, feedback and patience have helped shape every part of it.
